How It Works

Four steps to statutory exclusion

The entire process runs on Self-Exclusion.co.za, FMSA's dedicated statutory platform, and takes under 15 minutes online. FMSA submits your application as your authorised representative and follows up with the NGB on your behalf. Your exclusion takes effect once the NGB has processed and registered it.

01
Tell Us Who You Are

Your Details

Name, SA ID number, province, and physical description as required by NGB Form 1/1, plus your chosen exclusion duration.

02
Verify

Identity Check

Your SA ID number is verified with Home Affairs on our back end, and you take the photo that NGB Form 1/1 requires. This helps prevent fraudulent registrations.

03
Sign

One E-Signature

One electronic signature covers your NGB Form 1/1, FMSA Proxy Consent and Authorisation Certificate, and FMSA Self-Exclusion Submission Certificate together, under ECTA Section 25.

04
Submitted

Confirmation

FMSA submits your authenticated kit to the NGB and relevant PGBs. You receive your FMSA Self-Exclusion Submission Certificate and reference number, and we follow up with the NGB on your behalf.

Legal Framework

Built on statute, not goodwill

Self-exclusion is a statutory process under the National Gambling Act 7 of 2004, not a voluntary scheme run by operators.

Right

NGA Section 14

Any person may apply to the National Gambling Board for registration on the National Register of Self-Excluded Persons, in force since 1 August 2004.

Duty

Operator Obligations

Licensed gambling operators are subject to obligations concerning excluded persons under the NGA, applicable provincial gambling legislation, regulations, and licence conditions. FMSA follows up and escalates non-compliance on your behalf.

Protection

POPIA Act 4 of 2013

In full effect since 1 July 2021. FMSA does not disclose your personal information to gambling operators. Operator notification is administered by the NGB and provincial boards.

FMSA's role is limited to submitting your application on your instruction. FMSA does not process, advise on, or facilitate the upliftment or cancellation of a self-exclusion. Upliftment applications must be made directly to the National Gambling Board once the full exclusion period has elapsed.

Recommended Blocking Partner

Pair statutory exclusion with a device-level block

Self-exclusion deals with licensed SA operators. Gamban, our recommended blocking partner, stops your own phone, tablet and computer from reaching gambling websites and apps in the first place. The two layers work together.

Device Layer · Recommended

Gamban

Gambling-blocking software that blocks access to gambling websites and apps on supported devices. FMSA is Gamban's South African support partner and will help you get set up. Employers can provide Gamban to staff through FMSA.
